Board Members

Alan McEvoy

Dr. Alan McEvoy, professor of sociology at Wittenburg University, is a leading authority on the problems of violence and victimization, including the problems of school violence, sexual assault, harassment, bullying, child abuse, gang violence, and suicide. He has authored or coauthored the following books: Preventing Youth Suicide, If She Is Raped, If He Is Raped, Creating Effective Schools, Abused Children, When Disaster Strikes,and Youth and Exploitation. He also has published numerous articles in professional journals, has appeared on national television programs, and has lectured extensively to educators, human service workers, and other goups throughout the country. Alan has served as Senior Editor of the School Intervention Report, a national quarterly publication, and is a founding member and president of the Safe Schools Coalition, a national nonprofit organization devoted to reducing violence in schools and communities.

 

David Cole

David Cole is a Certified Public Accountant living and practicing accounting in La Salle, Colorado. He has B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, and has been a CPA since 1975. He has extensive experience with not-for-profit organizations, having served on the Board of Directors of many such entities, or as auditor or outside accountant for many others. Dave’s original ambition was to be a musician, and he continues to play saxophone and clarinet professionally in several musical groups. Dave’s wife, Jennifer, is an elementary teacher, and was one of the first teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

 

Fritz Erickson

Fritz Erickson is the Dean of Professional and Graduate Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. As a former elementary and middle school teacher, Fritz has a real passion for promoting safe and effective learning environments for all students. In addition to co-authoring over 40 books including Creating Effective Schools , Fritz served as the founding president of the National Alternative Education Association, chaired several national conferences including the Joint National Conference on Alternatives to Suspension, Expulsion, and Dropping Out of School, has presented extensively on cyber-bullying and the impacts on children and families, and has worked to promote both national and international educational reform.

 

John A. Vonk

John A. Vonk is an Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Vonk has over 35 years of teaching and research experience in higher education, specifically sociology. His areas of specialization include the sociology of education, urban education, gangs and youth violence, and the social psychology of learning. In the area of international education, Dr. Vonk has collaborated in the design, and development of educational programs in Central Asia. His perspective focuses on the development of equal educational opportunity on both the national and international level. He has been involved in the sponsorship of educational conferences on topics related to his areas of professional interest.

 

Michael Marinetti

Michael Marinetti is Assistant Dean of Professional Studies and Research at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He has over 25 years experience in higher education administration. His specialty areas include finance and budgeting, grants administration, and educational programming for disadvantaged populations. He has designed, developed, and directed compensatory education programs for at-risk students at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. He has directed numerous federally funded grant projects and has successfully established revenue-based distance education degree programs. His interest in promoting equal educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds has led to his involvement in national conferences on issues crucial to the academic success of children at risk.
